Victorian Detached House in Putney, South-West London, SW15
restoration : extension : interior design
This substantial family home was marred by inadequate kitchen and
family areas, which our client wanted to enlarge with a rear extension.
Researching into the form the extension might take, we decided upon
a traditional solid-masonry garden room, avoiding the more obvious
conservatory style, that we felt inappropriate to this area. The design
features floor-to-ceiling windows and glazed doors to allow natural
light to flood in and to create a spatial connection with the landscaped
garden.
We sourced building materials that matched those originally used,
to ensure a seamless transition from the existing house to the new
build. As well as extending the accommodation, we remodelled the
rest of the ground floor rear elevation to reflect the new status
of this part of the house. Installing larger windows, we also recreated
architectural features from the front of the property and applied
them at the rear. The new raised terrace unites the garden with
the house and enhances the decorative style of the architecture.
