1930s Attached House in St. John's Wood, North-West London, NW8

Starting life as a pianist's studio adjoining a large Georgian Villa,
this small, two storey house has now become a family home. Our clients
needed the upper floor replanning to create a new master bedroom and
bathroom suite and the lower floor restructuring to provide an effective
display for their art collection and to form a new kitchen.
We renewed the exterior and interior fabric and updated the essential
services and systems, improving the energy efficiency of the property.
We applied a modernist design scheme throughout the house, with
echoes of the 1930s, finished using high quality components and
materials.
The architectural challenge was to provide our clients with the
facilities and space they wanted whilst working within the confines
of the limited floor plan. To this end we carefully utilised the
space in the kitchen and bathroom areas, securing decorative radiators
above the work tops to exploit an otherwise redundant piece of wall
and freeing the lower wall for kitchen units. The granite worktop
in the kitchen continues seamlessly up the wall to the ceiling,
enhancing the perceived size of the room.
