Edwardian House in Hampstead, North-West London, NW3
restoration : extension : interior design : bespoke furniture
Conservation Area
This grand building had been split into four apartments and largely
stripped of period character. Our client wanted to reinstate it
as a luxurious, Edwardian family house, classic in style yet equipped
with leading edge essential services and 'smart house' electronic
systems.
In order to rationalise the floor plan, we removed all internal
structures and remodelled the accommodation, creating an open plan
layout. Specialist joiners and stone masons installed built-in joinery,
windows, doors and a bespoke staircase, all meticulously styled
to re-establish the period character of the house. The high-end
finishes reflect the status and age of the building and all the
natural materials are from renewable sources, as specified in our
brief.
Built-in furniture, installed throughout, was cleverly designed
to accommodate the needs of a modern family lifestyle, whilst augmenting
the Edwardian expression of the house. As requested by our client,
we also furnished the house, sourcing appropriate items from auctions
and specialist retailers. The furnishing scheme includes some Viscount
Linely pieces and Venetian light fittings, coupled with more modernist
items.
