Georgian Manor House in Hadley, Hertfordshire
planning permission : restoration : extension : interior design
: bespoke furniture
Grade II Listed
The extensive brief for the renovation of this private estate, focussed
on the manor house and other buildings within the 15 acres of grounds.
Our client wanted to thoroughly restore and update the exteriors and
interiors of the buildings, as well as remodel parts of the main house
to provide informal, open plan accommodation suitable for a modern
family lifestyle.
Due to the historic importance of the estate, the Listed Building
and Planning Consent guidelines provided a rigorous constraint to
our designs. We worked with the local Consent Officer and English
Heritage to create architectural interventions that are both harmonious
with the original building and meet the needs of the modern family.
We restructured the kitchen and pantry wing to create a large,
open plan kitchen and dining space, a playroom and palm house. The
bedroom area was rationalised to facilitate en-suite bathrooms for
all the bedrooms and we established a new, informal entrance for
daily use. Specialist craftsmen renewed the roofs and installed
new windows and doors, all designed to meticulously fit with the
Georgian period of the house. The fitout portrays a relaxed, country
look and feel, contrasting with the formality of the rest of the
property.
