Georgian Townhouse in Chelsea, West London, SW3
planning permission : restoration : extension : interior design
: bespoke furniture
Conservation Area
Our client's brief was to remodel and modernise this large six storey
townhouse, to suit the demands of a modern family lifestyle, whilst
respecting the period character of the building. They specifically
wanted to extend the family living area at the rear of the house to
create a large, open plan space. To enhance the use of the outdoor
area, they required an elevated terrace leading-off the first floor
formal lounge, supported by the ground floor extension below.
To compliment the existing period features of the house, we designed
the ground floor extension in the form of a traditional, glazed
orangery with bay windows. The outdoor terrace built above, augments
the space in the lounge, its sensitive detailing blending with the
original character of the house. Obtaining planning permission from
xxxxx Council for this new build element was challenging and ultimately
proved successful.
The refurbished bedrooms and new family bathroom boast thoroughly
modern amenities and a luxurious finish, and the open plan family
living space cleverly balances modern functionality with period
grandeur.
