Period Country House in Marlow, Buckinghamshire
restoration : extension : interior design : bespoke furniture
This property is formed of three historic cottages which our client
wanted us to extend and merge to create a large family home; to thoroughly
modernise it whilst maintaining and enhancing its period features.
The brief also called for us to redesign the extensive grounds and
renew the outbuildings to reflect the classic style of the main house.
Our most prominent architectural intervention is a large, two-storey
glazed atrium, pulling the individual parts of the house together
and providing a resplendent focal point to the property. The double
height of the atrium offers spacious relief from the low-ceilinged
rooms of the original cottages and is central to our rationalised
floor plan.
The interior fitout is of the highest standard. We installed a
new oak staircase, fine-wood wall-panelling and bespoke, handcrafted
furniture throughout the house, creating a luxurious feel. The floors
are finished in herringbone parquet and fine carpets and a new lighting
arrangement cleverly enhances the scheme
