Victorian Terraced House in Belsize Village, North-West London,
NW3
restoration : interior design : bespoke furniture
Conservation Area
The Local Authority had condemned this five storey house as an 'unsafe
structure' after it had been inhabited by squatters and neglected
for years. Our brief was to repair and renew all structural elements
of the building and restore the depleted period features, reinstating
the original Victorian splendour. To suit our client's funding structure,
we carried out the building works in phases.
We reconciled the floor pan to create an open plan structure to
the living areas, ideal for modern family life. The bespoke hardwood
furniture in the kitchen provides up-to-date amenities whilst expressing
the classic style of the house, and is finished in a range of Victorian
dusky hues. In contrast, the white walls reflect the natural light
from the large windows, creating a bright dining space. The natural
palette we chose for the bathroom is based around sandy neutrals
and adds a modern note, coupled harmoniously with the period-style
fixtures and fittings.
We sanded and polished the original floorboards throughout the
living areas and selected a fine carpet for the rest of the house.
