Grade II Listed, Conservation Area
Our client wanted to restore and remodel this spacious, two storey
apartment, which had lost its period character during a misguided
refurbishment in the 1970s. The apartment was governed by astringent
Listed Building and Planning Consent guidelines and after extensive
negotiations with English Heritage and the Westminster Planning
Department, we secured the appropriate permissions.
After stripping the interior of the apartment back to the outer
skin, we created a new floor plan to accommodate our client's needs.
We planned the lower floor so the reception, dining and entrance
hall areas could be opened-up to provide the large space needed
to host formal chamber music concerts. Extra-height folding doors
allow this flexibility and enhance the period styling of the property.
We sensitively returned the original character to the apartment,
installing panelled walls, period fireplaces, built-in joinery and
a majestic staircase.
The finish is grand and opulent, expressing the historic style
and status of the building. Our bespoke furniture adorns the rooms
creating essential storage with classic detailing. We also designed
the main free-standing furniture suite in the reception room, commissioning
specialist furniture makers to build it.
